Support Indigenous-led conservation projects in the Kimberley
Formed in 1978, the Kimberley Land Council (KLC) is the peak Indigenous body for the Kimberley region working towards a better future for Kimberley Aboriginal people through native title, conservation, advocacy and economic development.
A core focus of the KLC is to support Aboriginal Rangers to look after their traditional lands in the Kimberley through land and sea management.
From the desert to the sea, the KLC supports more than 100 rangers from 18 groups through the Kimberley Ranger Network. Kimberley rangers are leading the way in Traditional Owner-led land and sea management, including biodiversity conservation and right-way fire management, by using a combination of traditional cultural knowledge, western science and modern technologies to look after country.
Indigenous people are crucial to effective and sustainable environmental protection and conservation, as well as long-term sustainable development, and Kimberley Aboriginal people are playing an active and important role in ensuring the landscape is protected for future generations.
At the same time, Indigenous-led land and sea management offers a sustainable way to preserve cultural values and mitigate climate change whilst simultaneously creating jobs, driving progress towards economic independence, empowering women and improving livelihoods in communities.
Your contribution will support the KLC; a proven success story of Indigenous-led conservation, and positive cultural, social and economic outcomes for Aboriginal people.!
